You know how sometimes when you travel, it’s not the highlights that are you most memorable moments, but instead it is the random thing you discovered or did on a whim, that end up becoming your favorite travel memories? Despite the main attractions being as amazing as they are, the element of the unexpected make some experience even sweeter.
That unexpected sweetness for me in Croatia was Buza Beach. It’s not a total secret, but it is a little off the beaten path. While most tourists hit the city walls, the cable car, and cool off on Banje Beach, the perfect time to visit Buza is the middle of the day, when it is scorching hot in the sun. You can drink, jump in the ocean, drink again, and so on. With the city walls behind you, and the sea in front of you, you can’t help but just feel so chill for a moment. The entrance to the water is in the typical Croatian fashion, which is just going in off a bunch of rocks. This “beach” is slightly more accessible than other beaches I visited in Croatia, and they have a stairway carved in to the rock going in and out of the water. Honestly, I think this was much worse than the typical ladders I saw around Croatia. A ladder you can grip, but with the stairs you basically have to let the wave slam you into the wall so you can get back up the stairs. Multiple people managed to get banged up pretty badly attempting to get out of the water. But don’t let that scare you from going in! I think I had unusually rough water the day I visited. You just need to be a competent swimmer.
I visited Buza on my very last day in Croatia, and was seriously just obsessed with the place. It was the perfect way to end the trip!
